Individual birth support

What does a birth companion (doula) do—and who is she for?
Quite simply: for every expectant mother! Why is that?

Flower crowns and stone circles? No—professional, personalised support tailored to you.

From the book “Doula-Wissen rund um die Geburt” by Melanie Schöne and Dunja Herrmann:
Women have always supported other women during childbirth. For thousands of years, mothers, female relatives, or friends have accompanied the birthing woman to support the process and help ease pain.
A doula (from ancient Greek, meaning “servant of the woman”) sees herself in exactly this role: a companion who respects a woman’s autonomy, her personal choices, and her needs. She supports the expectant mother throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Doula-Wissen rund um die Geburt offers women and their partners in-depth information to foster greater self-determination and trust in natural birth. Melanie Schöne—herself a mother and experienced doula—shares her insights with empathy and understanding, and provides practical exercises and tips for pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. In doing so, she creates an environment of trust, warmth, and emotional security that positively impacts both parents and baby.

So often, I hear how a birth was planned—and how it was actually experienced: invasive, externally controlled. This can leave behind deep sadness, frustration, and sometimes even trauma.

This is where I step in—to support, protect, and guide you toward your desired birth experience.

Together, we create your birth plan individually, and I support you in implementing it while helping to minimise unnecessary interventions. Birth is one of the most significant moments in a woman’s life—you and your partner deserve to fully focus on your experience and rely on my support.
This support is as individual as each birth itself and is tailored entirely to your needs.

My offer for YOU

I provide intensive support before, during, and after birth.

Typically, we have 2–3 prenatal sessions where we get to know each other, discuss your birth plan, expectations, and any concerns about the birth. After the birth, we have 2–3 additional sessions, including a closing conversation.
Postnatal meetings can also cover topics such as breastfeeding, emotional support, baby sleep, and general questions that arise in a new family dynamic.

I’m also happy to incorporate your individual wishes, needs, or rituals—such as Blessingway ceremonies. Just talk to me.

Birth support

I support births in birth centres, hospitals, or at home.
You receive continuous one-to-one care during your desired birth.

I am on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—
from 2 weeks before your due date until 2 weeks after.

What does science say?

Continuous support from a doula during birth can reduce:

  • Caesarean section rates by 50%

  • Use of forceps by 40%

  • Requests for epidural anaesthesia by 60%

  • Administration of oxytocin by 40%

  • Duration of labour by 25%
