The tongue-tie in focus: Everything you should know
introduction
A short frenulum (tongue-tie) is a topic currently receiving a lot of attention. It is often cited as a possible cause of breastfeeding problems when other solutions fail. However, before considering surgery, I explore all possibilities and discuss the options thoroughly.

Experience and expertise
In 2018, I participated in one of the first advanced training courses on the topic of tongue-tie and have since regularly completed at least 20 hours of continuing education in the United States. Additionally, I work in a large oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic and regularly assist with frenotomies and cleft lip and palate surgeries. References are available upon request.

Comparison of treatment methods
From my own experience, I can assess the differences between laser surgery and traditional incision. Before recommending a frenotomy, we first optimize breastfeeding and explore conservative treatment options. I also work closely with a network of specialists and can recommend appropriate contacts.

Wound management after frenotomy
Wound management (AWM) is a critical, but often emotionally challenging, part of the process. Some families report that problems recur after frenotomy because aftercare was not performed correctly. A well-performed procedure also requires careful aftercare to achieve the best possible outcome.

Cooperation and consultation
If you have already been in contact with a lactation consultant, we can create a plan together to ensure the best support for you and your baby. Each consultation regarding tongue-tie is individually tailored to avoid unnecessary pain for your baby. Together, we will develop a detailed roadmap with exercises and therapy.
